Waterman 513 NM in Honey Brown

Regular price

The Waterman 513 NM was introduced, as an upgrade to the 513, in 1952.  The 'NM' signified, quite unimaginatively, 'New Model'.  It was discontinued after only a short time, when it was replaced by lower specification W3.

At 13.2 cm. capped and an impressive 15.6 cm. in length, when posted for use, it is a good sized and well balanced pen.  It features the Waterman box lever filling system, reserved for the higher end pens and dropped for it's successor, the W3.  The arrangement uses a metal frame to hold the filler lever, this gives it a more solid anchorage and prevents swelling around the lever slot.

The colour scheme is a range of gold and browns in an irregular striated pattern.  There is a suggestion of a slightly darker area under the cap lip but it has an excellent surface and is an unusual and attractive finish.  The gold filling to the clip and cap band is first class.

The pen has been restored and tested.  The filling system works well and the 14Ct. Gold nib writes with a smooth, medium line.

The Waterman presentation case is in fair condition and is probably original to the pen.  It came to me with the pen, is from the correct time period and suits the pen very well.

The Waterman 513 NM is a high quality, attractive and practical vintage pen.  Due to the relatively short production run, the NM is not easy to find.  This example is of collectable quality but would also make an excellent daily writer.
