The Waterman Preface was a high end offering from Waterman, made as a fountain pen, ballpoint, and pencil, it only appeared in the 2000 to 2002 catalogues. This colour, green lacquer body with slight variation from lighter to darker greens in large diffuse spots which they called "Escapist Green," with 18Ct. Gold filled trim, was made for the first two years, replaced with a solid 'Forest Green' for 2002.
The pencil is new old stock, in the original box, it is immaculate in all respects with no signs of use or handling marks. The pencil is cap activated, the cap is twisted to extend the lead. Removing the cp reveals an unused eraser which can be removed to access spare leads stored in the barrel.
At 13.5 cm. in length, the Prefcae is a full sized pencil. The multi layered lacquer and 18Ct gold trim combine to great effect, it is a most attractive, high quality pencil. Due to the short production run and high price of the Preface, it is one of the more scarce Waterman models.
