The Wyvern De Luxe, made in Leicester during the post war period, is a 'top of the range' model, well above the much more common 'Perfect Pen' series in terms of quality.
The pen is finished in a most attractive marbled brown colour with a pearlised effect, set off nicely by the triple gold filled cap bands and clip. It has an excellent surface and a good, deep shine. The only imprint is 'Made in England', for reasons unknown Wyvern sometimes did not print the name and model on the pen.
Fully restored and tested, the pen is in excellent working condition. The lever filling system has been fitted with a new ink sac and works well. The 14 Ct. Gold nib is best described as semi flexible, with virtually no pressure it produces a fine line but flexes to give a broader line if pressure is applied on the downstroke. This produces line variation adding character to the writing, very effective in the right hands. At an impressive 15.5 cm. with the cap posted it is a long and elegant pen with a high quality, well balanced feel.
The box is new, it will serve well for transportation, protection, and display.
The Wyvern De Luxe was produced with a number of cap band configurations, this 'thin, thick, thin' arrangement is the most attractive and least common. Quite a rare pen, it is very collectable but would also make a very good vintage daily writer.
