The Parker 61 Flighter De Luxe was introduced in 1970 and the cap stud was changed in 1975 to a Gold filled stud, as in this pencil. The 61 was discontinued around 1981.
The Flighter De Luxe differed from the standard Flighter in that it featured a Gold filled clip and cap stud. This is a fine example, it is in first rate condition throughout and could well be unused. The eraser has certainly seen very little, if any use, and there is a full set of spare leads stord in the barrel.
The plastic display box is also in good order and could be original, it is from the right time period.
Mechanical pencils have seen an upsurge in popularity recently with new models ranging form a few pounds to over two hundred. The vast majority of these new pencils, however, use the simple and cheap to make 'click action' clutch type mechanism. The original rotary mechanism, as in this vintage pencil, is much more robust and is generally only found on the more expensive new pencils.
The all steel construction of the Flighter pencil is very robust, it would make an excellent vintage daily writer.
The last photograph shows the pencil alongside a matching a matching ballpoint pen available here. Please contact me for a 10% discount if you are interested in buying the set, packed in a new gift box.
